Paul's Planters

I built these two planters for Paul recently. He's using them for a bamboo wall on his balcony. They are 56" long by 13.5" deep by 24" high.

Pictures May/June 2011

I don't what kind of flower this is but it's pretty.

This is what happens when you use mattress cover plastic for your planters ;(

So I took out all the soil and relined it. What a pain in the arse.

Japanese Blood Grass planter. I removed the side slats and tried to remove the soil in pieces to try and save the grass in intact

Relined

It worked!

The Blood Grass is starting to grow.

Ariel's Planter

I just built this one on the weekend for Ariel. It's made out of cedar with  raincoat protection. It's 4 feet long by 1.5 feet wide by 2 feet high. I made this one with legs so that the 'body' doesn't touch the concrete. I learned from Ariel that wood soaks up water from the concrete like a sponge! I gave the legs a nice thick coat of the raincoat protection.

So Ariel decided to get another shorter planter. It looks really good staggered like this.

June 15,2011. I just got these these from Ariel. Garden looks good, now if only the weather would corporate.

Sonya's Planters

Before my planters.

These were actually built last fall. Notice the planter on the side.

Looks better with stuff in them.

Spring Is Here

Spring is finally here! Yeppie! That means clean up and preparing to plant. Here are some pics of what happens when you use the plastic from your mattress as planter box liner. After 3 seasons, it's disintegrated and the soil is starting to rot the wood, especially on the bottom. So I've had the pleasure of digging all the soil out, cleaning it and then re-lining the planters with Super-Six industrial plastic. It's what I've been using for all my planters and it was recommended by the Home Depot guy. I hope he's right and it'll last a long long time.
